However, the reboot won’t focus on recording videos traditionally—it will center on generating clips using artificial intelligence.

On August 2, Musk tweeted: “Grok Imagine is AI Vine! Btw, we recently found the Vine video archive (thought it had been deleted) and are working on restoring user access, so you can post them if you want.”
This announcement confirms that the long-lost Vine video collection, believed erased after the platform’s 2017 shutdown, has been rediscovered by Musk’s team. Articles from TechCrunch report that efforts are now underway to enable former users to retrieve and possibly re-upload their classic six-second loops.
Acquired by Twitter in 2012 for about $30 million, Vine rapidly became a major cultural phenomenon. Along with the Vine revival news, Musk introduced Grok Imagine, an AI-powered video generator integrated within the Grok service. Targeted at X Premium+ users, especially those subscribed to the SuperGrok tier, it enables the creation of six-second videos simply by submitting text prompts.
According to Midi Libre, this tool leverages AI models akin to those employed by Meta, aiming to produce highly tailored visuals from brief descriptions. Musk described the feature as: “Super fast image & video generation via Imagine in the @Grok app.”
This innovation goes beyond just a creative gadget; it represents Musk's vision to blend AI capabilities directly into X's user content creation. Instead of filming, creators will generate videos algorithmically, opening new opportunities for automated and experimental formats.
Is This Nostalgia or a Strategic Move?
Musk’s interest in resurrecting Vine dates back to 2022 when he polled X users about bringing the app back, receiving over 69% approval. Reports from Axios indicated that engineers looked into a possible reboot then, but it stalled until now.
