Guinness World Records Creates a Special Playdate
Guinness World Records arranged the event in Idaho Falls as part of their anniversary celebration, ensuring Pearl, who resides in Florida, avoided air travel for comfort.
“Obviously, bringing the smallest dog in the world with the tallest dog in the world, there was a little bit of anxiety,” says Reggie’s owner, Sam Johnson Reiss. “He was very gentle, very, very kind to Pearl, as best as he could be.”
Known formally as Reginald, Reggie claimed the title of the world’s tallest living male dog in January 2025, weighing 145 pounds and measuring an impressive 3 feet 3 inches at the shoulder. His owner, Sam Johnson Reiss, has adapted their living space to accommodate Reggie’s exceptional stature, including installing specific arrangements to help him drink from the kitchen sink and establish meal routines.
In contrast, Pearl, born in September 2020, weighs just over one pound and stands a tiny 3.6 inches tall, earning her the accolade of shortest dog in the world. Her diminutive size is as remarkable as Reggie’s towering frame.
“She’s really demanding,” says Vanessa Semler, Pearl’s owner. “She’s strong, and opinionated, and she can tell you what she wants.”
An Unexpected Bond Between Reggie and Pearl
Their meeting was touching as the two quickly formed a friendly bond. Despite his large size, Reggie showed gentle care toward Pearl after an initial cautiousness. They enjoyed their time together indoors, creating an inspiring example of companionship transcending size.
