Revealed on Sunday, this addition features a specific video tab as part of the platform’s ongoing effort to prioritize video content and boost user interaction. A Strategic Move Amid TikTok’s Regulatory Turmoil

The timing of the video tab rollout coincides with significant regulatory hurdles confronting TikTok in the US. A Senate-approved law from April requires TikTok to divest from its Chinese owner, ByteDance, or halt its US operations by January 19, 2025.

Over the weekend, TikTok briefly suspended service for US users, leading to uncertainty and speculation. Services resumed on Sunday after reports of President-elect Donald Trump planning an executive order to delay the ban.

  • Content planning tools to manage and organize creator strategies.
  • Built-in analytics for optimizing video performance.

Mosseri highlighted that Edits targets content creators rather than casual users, aiming to fill the gap left by CapCut’s removal from Apple’s App Store, which had been popular among many users.

The launch of the video tab fits into Elon Musk’s broader ambition to transform X into a multi-purpose platform integrating social networking, artificial intelligence, and video content.
